Training shaped and delivered with lived experience

Bring Experts by Experience into the way your organisation reviews, develops and delivers learning.

LENs can support training-needs discussions, review existing content, make written recommendations and co-deliver training from induction through to specialist topics. We can also advise on the appropriate use of lived experience in training design and assessment, and offer licensing options for lived experience video content.

The organisational need

Check what the training says against how services are experienced

Training can be technically accurate and still miss how policies, language and practice feel to the people receiving care or support. Adding a personal story to a finished slide deck does not resolve that gap.

LENs can bring lived experience into the review and design of the training itself. Experts by Experience can help test assumptions, identify language or examples that need attention and contribute to delivery where their perspective is relevant to the learning aims.

What the service includes

Review, strengthen and co-deliver

01

Training-needs discussion

We begin with the audience, learning aims, existing material and the practice or standard the training needs to support. LENs helps identify where lived experience should contribute.

02

Content review

LENs can review training content and provide written recommendations. The review can consider how lived experience is represented, where more context is needed and whether activities or examples are likely to work for the intended audience.

03

Co-delivery

Experts by Experience can contribute to delivery from induction through to specialist topics. Their role, preparation and the parts of the session they will lead or support are agreed in advance.

04

Training design and assessment guidance

LENs can advise on how lived experience is used within learning activities and assessment without presenting one person’s experience as universal.

05

Lived experience video content

Licensing options may be available for lived experience video content. The scope will state which content is included, the permitted use, duration and relevant rights.

06

Accreditation support

Where accreditation support is in scope, LENs can review or strengthen relevant training material and provide lived experience input. LENs does not award accreditation or guarantee approval. Any formal decision remains with the relevant accreditation or awarding body.

Clear boundaries

What the service does not claim

Working with LENs does not make a course accredited, approved or compliant by itself. Do not use LENs’ involvement to imply endorsement by a regulator, standards body or awarding organisation.

Who participates

Experts by Experience working alongside training leads

LENs supplies Experts by Experience for the agreed review, design or delivery activity. Your organisation provides the training context, learning aims, current materials and the people responsible for the programme.

The written scope sets out the contributor role, preparation, access needs, content boundaries, delivery arrangements and who approves the final material.

Delivery process

How the training work is scoped

  1. 01

    Discuss the training need

Tell us about the audience, current content, intended learning and any standards or accreditation process the work needs to consider. LENs will help identify where lived experience input is most useful.

  2. 02

Review the material and agree the scope

We look at the available content and the work required. LENs then prepares a written scope covering review, design, co-delivery, video content or accreditation support as relevant.

  3. 03

    Develop or strengthen the training

Experts by Experience contribute to the agreed review and development work. LENs records recommendations and works with your training leads within the boundaries of the scope.

  4. 04

    Prepare and co-deliver

Where delivery is included, the contributor role, session format and practical arrangements are agreed before the training takes place.

  5. 05

Provide the agreed recommendations and follow-up

LENs returns the written recommendations or other outputs set out in the proposal. Any further review, delivery or accreditation-support work is agreed after your team has considered them.

Common questions

Training and Accreditation Support FAQs

If your question is more specific, tell us about the work and we can discuss it directly.

Ask a question
01Can LENs review training we already use?

Yes. Content review and written recommendations form part of the current offer. We will agree which material is included and what the review needs to consider.

02Can Experts by Experience co-deliver the training?

Yes. LENs can support co-delivery from induction through to specialist topics. The contributor role and practical arrangements will be included in the scope.

03Can you help us design new training?

LENs can contribute to training-needs discussions, content development and the appropriate use of lived experience in learning and assessment. We will confirm the exact design work after reviewing the requirement.

04Does LENs provide accreditation?

No. LENs provides accreditation support and lived experience input within the agreed scope. Formal accreditation decisions remain with the relevant body, and LENs does not guarantee approval.

05Does working with LENs make our training compliant?

No. LENs’ contribution does not by itself establish compliance, approval or accreditation. Your organisation remains responsible for the formal requirements that apply to the training.

06Can we license lived experience video content?

Licensing options form part of the current offer. Availability, permitted use, duration and other rights will be set out in the written agreement.

07Can training support be combined with another LENs service?

Yes. Training may follow research, service testing, an advisory board or strategic co-production work. LENs can scope the services together where that produces a more coherent piece of work.
